My name is Mr. Torre.  I am a 6th Grade Language Arts Teacher here at Deretchin Elementary School.  This is my 14th year as a teacher (5th year in CISD).  I am new to the school this year, having most recently taught 6th Grade at Coulson Tough.  I am excited to get to know each of you this year.  Here is a bit more about me!

I live here in the Woodlands area with my wife, Sarah, and my three boys, August (6), Atticus (4) and Archer (2).  I enjoy spending my free time with my family outdoors, riding our bikes, camping, swimming, or playing sports.  My wife and I coached T-Ball together this summer with our two oldest boys.  I also enjoy playing music. I love to sing and play the guitar and perform live at various locations around The Woodlands.  I'm a big kid at heart.  My birthday gift last fall was a longboard (skateboard), which I enjoy riding along side my boys while they are biking!

I am originally from the state of Maryland, just north of Baltimore.  I graduated from Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania in 1999, where I majored in Elementary Education and spent the early part of my career teaching in North Carolina and Northern Virginia before moving to The Woodlands, TX in 2008.  I spent the first nine years of my teaching career coaching at the junior high and high school level in a variety of sports, including baseball, basketball, soccer and cross country.  In 2008, I earned my Masters degree in Sport Event and Facility Management and spent some time over the past eight years running both adult and children's programs for The Woodlands Township and also spent time in management in the Fitness Industry.

I am excited to be a part of the team here at Deretchin Elementary this fall and look forward to working with each of you!

Kind regards,

Mr. Torre

40 Book Challenge
On Monday, August 29th, students will be given instructions about our 40 book challenge that we will be completing this year.  This is printed on a green checklist form and will be kept in the student ELA folder this year.  It will include a specific number of books that need to be read in various genres.  It will also include checkpoints at the end of each quarter for the number of books that need to be completed.
